The Iron King

Julie Kagawa

Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.

But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

Quotes from the book

“I licked my lips and whispered, 'Is this where you say you'll kill me?'
One corner of his lips curled. 'If you like,' he murmured, a flicker of amusement finally crossing his face. 'Though it's gotten far too interesting for that.”

********

“Ash blinked. "Are you raiding the cellars now, Goodfellow?"

"Me? Stealing?" Puck flashed a devious grin and popped another fruit into his mouth. "In the house of my ancient enemy? What gave you that idea?" He plucked another fruit and tossed it to me with a wink.”

********

“He shook his head, examining the wound again. “It's not frostbitten,“ he muttered. “It'll blister, but you should be fine. You might only lose a couple fingers.“
I glanced at him sharply, but he was smirking. For a moment, I was speechless. Good God, the Ice Prince was making jokes now; the world must be ending.”

My Thoughts

This book is (by far) one of the best I have ever read! It is fantastic!

The characters are interesting, and the main character, Meghan Chase, is easy to relate to (apart from the being half Fey thing) and Ash, don't even get me started on Ash! (upcoming YA Hottie) He comes across a bit nasty at the start, but he warms up and you start to realise who he really is.

The whole concept of a faery world existing just because people believe in them is really cool, and there are some serious twists and turns that you would never expect!

Best faery/fairy book I have read (and I've read a fair few) also one of the best YA books I have read! If you want to read a book that is compelling and impossible to put down, then this is definitely the book for YOU!

Hurry, go buy it and start it straight away, you don't want to miss out.

I'm so  in LOVE I think I've died and gone to heaven!

Happy Reading,

 Fave Adam Quote

"You have no idea how much I've thought about you. How many times I've dreamt"-he takes a tight breath- "how many times I've dreamt about being this close to you." He moves to run a hand through his hair before he changes his mind. Looks down. Looks up. "God, Juliette, I'd follow you anywhere. Your the only good thing left in this world."

Trial by Fire
By Jennifer Lynn Barnes
There can only be one alpha.

Bryn is finally settling into her position as alpha of the Cedar Ridge Pack - or at least, her own version of what it means to be alpha when you're a human leading a band of werewolves. Then she finds a teenage boy bleeding on her front porch. Before collapsing, he tells her his name is Lucas, he's a Were, and Bryn's protection is his only hope.

But Lucas isn't part of Bryn's pack, and she has no right to claim another alpha's Were. With threats - old and new - looming, and danger closing in from all sides, Bryn will have to accept what her guardian Callum knew all along. To be alpha, she will have to give in to her own animal instincts and become less human. And, she's going to have to do it alone.

QUOTES FROM THE BOOK:
“So," I said climbing to my feet and changing the subject ASAP, "I had a dream last night someone tried to burn me alive, and I'm not entirely sure it was a dream."
Devon stiffened. Chase's pupils pulsed.
Subject successfully changed.
"Now who's ready to eat?”
********
"Ouch!'' The cry escaped before I could stop it, and on either side of me, Chase and Devon leapt to their feet.
''Problem?'' Ali asked mildly, amusement dancing in the corners of her eyes. Given the whole Casey thing, I didn't think she had to call to be in such a good mood, but what did I know?
''No problem,'' I said darkly, rubbing my shin ''Somebody just accidentally kicked me under the table.'' I narrowed my eyes at lake, and she helped herself to another T-bone And smothered it in stake sauce.
''Wasn’t an accident'' She said cheerfully.
''Lake'' Mitch didn’t say any more than his daughters name and she rolled her eyes.
''It’s not like I shot her''
********
"Did you follow me here?" I asked.
Lake shrugged. "The word follow seems to suggest you got here first."
********
Although this book was not even close to being as good as the first, it was still pretty good. The thing that disappointed me the most was, how this book lacked ability to turn the page for you, not literally but metaphorically.
Another let down was the story line. It was no where near as fast paced or interesting as it could have been. Definitely could have been better, much better. But I won't let it deter me from reading more of Jennifer Lynn Barnes' work.
It was alright... I guess
